Evergreen songs are rare these days. Even if one or two come up with the genuineness of music and lyrics, they loolosese all the shine under the dazzle of the bustle of heavy synthesizers or drums of the major chunk of the cacophonous pomposity marketed in the name of music. These days it's even hard to identify the music composers only by listening to their compositions: they all seem alike in form and style. As a result, it now seems, perhaps the 80's and the 90's of the last century were far better a phase in this respect. At least the twilight hours of R. D. Burman, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, and Kalyanji-Anandji, the disco euphoria of Bappi Lahiri, the new comers like Anand-Milind, Nadeem-Shravan, Jatin-Lalit, Viju Shah, and the likes were somehow keeping the flow of music going up till the next phase of introduction of Dolby surround sounds to audio listening experience at the onset of this millennium.
So, quite clear it is that the music composer-duo Jatin-Lalit was among the ones to take Bollywood music one step further. Having made debut with the superhit music of Yara Dildara (1991), Jatin-Lalit went on to compose one after another hit numbers in the years to come. Quite sure, on being made to pick the chartbusters of Jatin-Lalit, anyone most likely would choose the songs of the films like Jo Jita Wohi Sikandar (1992), Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1996), Yes Boss (1997), Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai (1998), Pyar to Hona Hi Tha (1998), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Sangharsh (1999) and many other gems out of their musical might. One can have the dicography of Jatin-Lalit here on Wikipedia: https://shorturl.at/cBS12
Of course, 'Mujhe Raat Din Bas Mujhe Chahti Ho' of the film Sangharsh is such a composition that will last till the last breath of any connoisseur of Hindi film music, especially of the soul-soothing ones of the naughty 90's. The song has attained so much supremacy that is has become an identity-song of Jatin-Lalit. But what I am going to produce up next may disappoint many a disciple of this celebrated music composer-duo. I won't say much, only will urge you to put your ears to 'Mujhe Dekhkar Apka Muskurana' of Joy Mukherjee and Sadhana starer Ek Musafir Ek Hasina (1962): https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=fNt2PHTIOYw&feature=share. It was both a musically hit and box-office superhit film of the 60's. The music composer was the Asha Bhosle apostle, the one and only Onkar Prasad Nayyar, popularly known as O. P. Nayyar. So, before you praise Jatin-Lalit for 'Mujhe Raat Din', do not forget to thank O. P. Nayyar-ji for having inspired the former in such a lovely composition for the film Sangharsh.
