Firoj: a boy to admire, and a man of utility

Firoj Choudhary of Rajadanga of Jalpaiguri, or simply Firoz to his friends, is just any other boy on the verge of putting things together so that his entry into manhood proves correct from every perspective. He is just one who likes to be mischievous, have fun, play pranks on friends, and hang out with his best friends. He is just the neighbourhood boy who knows who lives the very next door, who is next to that, and so on. He is of course famous among not only his contemporaries but also the ones senior or junior to him by age.

A Higher-Secondary pass-out in 2019, Firoj is the name one, especially his teachers, can still find wandering about the vicinity of the school, waiting to receive any request or order. Even after passing way back in 2019, he has always been there whenever his past school has decided to stage a grand show on the occasion of Saraswati Puja, or on the Annual Sports. He cannot even turn down the proposal of his ex-Physical Education teacher to play the referee in the Inter-Class Football Tournament.

What not is he? A Lalu (quite like the daredevil created by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, who may seem to be foolhardy at times) of his own locality who is ever-ready to do his best to serve the people he knows, be it in the form of running on errands for others, or taking a disease-stricken soul to the hospital, or as a helping hand in a marriage ceremony.

Having secured marks just about the average parameter and being not that meritorious academically (as per the traditional definition of merit), he may have to work a bit harder to attain a stable livelihood in future (if that has to be weighed in terms of monetary possession). But what he won't fail to achieve is peace of mind. If money is the sole benchmark to measure happiness, he may stand on the lower side. But as per the humanistic and holistic approaches towards bliss and excellence, he is sure to sit on the cosy chair of success. To ensure that he won't let himself down in the battle for existence he has already started trying his hand in the art of exterior decoration at auspicious social gatherings.

A respectful boy by nature and expression, Firoj will always stand tall among his peers. He wins the heart not by his words, but by his heart. I pray he keeps being the way he is and wish him all the happiness in life. God bless him!
