The Circle of Life & Other Tales encloses Life
The recently published book 'The Circle of Life & Other Tales' by Haimanti Dutta Ray (www.facebook.com/haimanti.d.ray), the much acclaimed short story writer, her stories having frequently found spaces in the renowned dailies like The Statesman, has quite masterfully elucidated the confounding nature of human idiosyncratic responses in the most commonplace manner taking help of the down-to-earth expressions.
The book, published by Locksley Hall Publishing (www.facebook.com/Locksley-Hall-Publishing), comprises thirteen short stories, all tinged with the shades of true human psyche in reactions to some of the most undesirable yet inevitable facets of life like pain, loss, defeat, misery, and above all death. Also, shock in the discovery of something heinous, wonder in fulfilment of the most treasures wishes find especial references in her stories.
Values of mutual relationship and human sensibility have alway been her forte. Even in a recently published stories in The Statesman, Apathy (March 18,2018) and The Conversation (January 7, 2018) have featured these two traits quite unfailingly. The aforesaid collection also showcases the same strategy with regard to character portrayal where the champion craftswoman within her has woven the motifs built around the snapshots of inescapable facts pertaining to human existence, but also equally treating the gifts of soothing surprises, loves, bonding, maturation, reconciliation, all converging in abundance in almost all the stories.
No doubt, with the anecdotal insights into the psychological attributes of the characters like Hari, an urchin, Anupama, an investigative journalist, Iravati, a professor, and many others like them bonded inextricably with either futile matrimony, or thrill of wonderment, or mysterious end of life, or rumination of loss and gain, or reiteration of one's own fate, the book thrives well in leaving its impression long after it's finished.
A finished book of this stature of finesse is sure to win the hearts of the readers.

Dear Sourish, a simple THANK YOU will never do and I know it. The fact that you've enjoyed reading my book and have decided to discuss it in your blog, itself elucidates the faith you harbor in women writers like me, who find it exceptionally hard to gain a toehold in a male-dominated industry. THE CIRCLE OF LIFE & OTHER TALES is my first work of literary fiction. And you were the first person to review it on Amazon. Hence both you and my book, of course, hold a special place in my heart.
ReplyDeleteMa'am, it's the time to bring down that edifice built on false ideals of male-domination. I pray your future assignments lash out at that age old masculine delusion of stunting the influx of feminine talents.
